@A first comprehensive review book about coral reefs of Japan, written and edited by Japan Coral Reef Society, and published by the Ministry of Environment, Japan. Two editions were published, in Japanese and in English. The book brings together and explains about characteristics of Japanese coral reefs, i.e., its distribution, disturbance, monitoring activities, sustainable use and conservation, and restoration programs. It also describes the status of coral reefs at all regions throughout the country. The English edition has been first distributed to all participants of the International Coral Reef Symposium in Okinawa, 2004 and is available in PDF format on this site. The Japanese edition is available at the Japan Wildlife Research Center (contact below).

Japanese brochure of the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) published in commemoration of Japan and the Republic of Palau taking the role of 2005-2007 ICRI co-Secretariat. Written and edited by the Ministry of the Environment, Japan. It describes the background, objectives, activities and schedule of ICRI and the host Secretariat during 2005-2007. The brochure was first distributed to wide range of publics during the World EXPO 2005 in Aichi, Japan.
 
Status of Coral Reefs in East Asian Seas Region: 2004

This is a regional report on status of coral reefs in East Asian countries including Southeast (SE) and Northeast (NE) Asia, edited by GCRMN (Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network: http://www.gcrmn.org/) node coordinators of this region and published by the Ministry of the Environment, Japan. The book describes present situation of coral reefs and recommends future directions for coral reef conservation. SE Asian countries are Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. NE Asian countries consists of China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and Korea. Each chapter is written by a national coordinator and collaborators. This book also has special issue on rapid assessment of 2004 Tsunami damage on coral reefs in affected areas.
